Why I Wrote the Beauty for Ashes Series

There’s a Scripture that’s followed me like a whisper over the years—sometimes quiet, sometimes loud, but always present. It’s Isaiah 61:3:

"To bestow on them a crown of beauty instead of ashes,

the oil of joy instead of mourning,

and a garment of praise instead of a spirit of despair."

I wrote the Beauty for Ashes series because I believe this verse isn’t poetic exaggeration—it’s a promise. A holy exchange. And like many of you, I needed that promise to be real. I needed stories that didn’t shy away from pain, but also didn’t leave you there.

💔 Why These Stories?

When I sat down to write Book One: "Beauty for Ashes" , I had one prayer in my heart:

Let the brokenhearted feel seen.

Not pitied. Not overlooked. Not "too messy" for love.

I imagined a woman like Grace Montgomery—returning to her small hometown with scars that don’t show up on her skin but run deep through her soul. I wanted readers to walk beside her as she rediscovers joy, wrestles with grief, and slowly, quietly, falls in love with a man who sees the beauty beneath the ashes.

But Grace isn’t the only one with a past. Pastor Luke Walker may seem like the strong, stable hero on the surface, but he’s battling ghosts of his own. Their story is tender, complicated, and full of moments where faith has to fight to be more than just words.

Because real healing? It takes time.

And love that lasts? It takes God.
